The Limit as a Plastic Concept in the Work of Eduardo Chillida. A Reading Based on Eugenio Trías’ Philosophy of the Limit

“The plastic limit as a concept in the work of Eduardo Chillida. A reading from the Philosophy of the Limit by Eugenio Trias” is an aesthetic investigation into the work of the Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida that takes as its main concept the idea of the limit, understood as a fundamental ontological category appliedto an artwork. All this, following the line proposed by philosopher Eugenio Trias, who with his philosophical system provides a theoretical and methodological approach to our analysis. In this way, and based on the symbolic value of art, the work of Chillida is addressed from a metaphysical aspect that, according to Trias’s system of arts, speaks of space from the dialectic of matter/vacuum and from which we inhabit.

Este trabajo consiste en una investigación estética sobre la obra del escultor vasco Eduardo Chillida que toma como eje conceptual la noción del límite, entendida como categoría ontológica fundamental aplicada a la obra de arte. Esto siguiendo la línea propuesta por el filósofo barcelonés Eugenio Trías, que con su filosofía del límite, nos proporciona un enfoque teórico y metodológico para nuestro análisis. De esta forma, y partiendo del valor simbólico del arte, se aborda la obra de Chillida desde un cariz metafísico que acorde a su sistema de las artes, nos habla del espacio a partir de la dialéctica materia/vacío y desde el cual habitamos.
