Programmable multichannel sine wave generator for a C-MEMS based dielectrophoretic filter

This thesis develops a programmable multichannel sine wave generator for a CMEMS dielectrophoretic filter in order to separate bio-particles. Independent frequency generation is obtained using the direct digital frequency synthesis technique, implemented in a FPGA chip. To synthesize sine waves, symmetry has been exploited. And memory requirements were reduced. Sine wave parameters are programmed through a RS-232 to SPI interface of a personal computer and FPGA. A prototype consisting of two channels is implemented developing two external modules from FPGA. A frequency resolution of 2.980232Hz is obtained, and a maximum of 12.5MHz may be generated per channel. Digital amplitude control is implemented either with a 0.087Vpp step resolution, capable to create sine waves up to 22.4Vpp on each channel.
