Design of a novel high school mathematics class through the usability analysis of a robot implementation
(Springer, 2022-10-01) Baltazar Reyes, Germán Eduardo; Jiménez, Brenda; López Caudana, Edgar Omar; Tlalpan, Patricia; Ponce Cruz, Pedro; Institute for the Future of Education, Tecnologico de Monterrey; https://ror.org/03ayjn504
This paper proposes implementing a robotic platform to improve students’ attention levels in high school math classes. This proposal found that the math class topics taught with the support of a robotic platform were more attractive and dynamic than a traditional class model with only the professor's guidance. The primary goal was to transform a conventional class into an experimental one to improve the students’ grades

Education in Latin America: Toward the Digital Transformation in Universities
(Springer, 2021-09-20) Argüelles Cruz, Amadeo José; García Peñalvo, Francisco José; Ramírez Montoya, María Soledad; Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey
Education in Latin America turned to the use of distance communica- tion strategies in the scenario’s face of health, social, and economic consequences resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. This abrupt change meant reviewing a set of conditions that drastically affected quality teaching and education in the region. This chapter addresses the conditions that universities in Latin America countries must face in order to ensure that their students can develop quality knowledge through the conditions present in distance and hybrid models, and the efforts that must be concentrated on in teacher’s training, in order to professionalize in a more innovative manner in the face of digital and remote teaching. The factors that universities at the region should consider in their models to address the relevance and encourage the development of activities to meet their objectives and those of the community in which they take part. In the same way, the metrics, indicators and data for the areas of opportunity and the analysis of information used for decision making will be reviewed, and the use of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, big data, data analytics, cloud computing and the complement information and communication technologies required in the digital transformation of the universities in the Latin America region.

    Algorithms Shaping the Future
(Springer, 2020-10-07) Olier Arenas, Eduardo; Valderrey Villar, Francisco Javier; Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey; Park, Seung Ho; Floriani, Dinora; Gonzalez Perez, Maria Alejandra
This chapter discusses the relevance of algorithms in modern society and their role in shaping our future lifestyle. This is a crucial issue to humanity, forced to interact with intelligent machines controlled by powerful algorithms fully capable of commanding people, changing business models, and reshaping society. We may be approaching the point of no return, thus delivering Norbert Wiener’s vision of cybernetics, facilitating the control of human beings. After providing a proper context for comprehension of algorithms and the associated technological improvements, we analyze the elements behind the new digital economy, sharing technical insights about algorithms, before evaluating their major contributing factors to the betterment of our society. Finally, we provide advice to entrepreneurs, managers, and policymakers, and advance ethical concerns before describing our contribution to the overall project of Business 2025: Sustainability and Digital Transformation.

Education 4.0 Reference Framework for the Design of Teaching-Learning Systems: Two Case Studies Involving Collaborative Networks and Open Innovation
(Springer, 2021-11-24) Ramírez Montoya, María Soledad; Miranda Mendoza, Jhonattan; Molina Gutiérrez, Arturo
Collaborative networks and open innovation have high potential as co-drivers of value creation for many production and service sectors such as education. In higher education, it is increasingly frequent to observe universities implementing teaching-learning systems with collaborative processes supported by 4.0 technologies. Moreover, various pedagogical procedures, research activities, and co-development projects have complemented these types of collaborative processes, which today are considered desirable to be carried out within Education 4.0. In this paper, the authors propose a reference framework for designing new teaching-learning systems using the concept and vision of Education 4.0. The proposed reference framework considers key enablers of Education 4.0 and three dimensions to analyse and evaluate decisions made: (i) Technological, (ii) Pedagogical, and (iii) Organisational. Finally, two case studies involving collaborative networks and open innovation illustrate how the proposed reference framework is used.

Assignment of Groups for the Execution of a Collaborative Work Using Emerging Algorithms
(Springer, 2020) Jara, Inés; Cabezas, Marcos; Barba-Guamán, Luis; Ramírez Montoya, María Soledad; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1274-706X; Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja; Botto-Tobar, M.; Zambrano Vizuete, M; Torres-Carrión, P; Montes León, S; Pizarro Vásquez, G; Durakovic, B
In educational institutions collaborative work is used as a strategy to enhance active learning. One of the organizational tasks that is in charge of the teacher is the assignment of groups. Hence the purpose of this article, which is to show how emerging algorithms with their self-organization characteristics, can be used in group formation to carry out a collaborative task. Showing that performance and small groups do not necessarily go hand in hand. The methodology used is a case study and the sample corresponds to 62 students of the subject of Artificial Intelligence of Distance Modality of the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, in the academic period April-August/2018, to whom a dichotomous 16-item survey was applied based on the three phases of the Zimmerman selfregulated learning cycle. Among the remarkable results, we can mention that the synergy of individual regulation known as socially shared regulation influenced the execution of the collaborative task. Likewise, the cohesion of a group is not a determining variable to achieve meaningful learning since the less cohesion the greater regulation of socially shared learning. The contribution of the present study is given in the field of Computer Supported Cooperative Learning (CSCL) to alleviate one of the administrative tasks of teachers “Group Assignment”, which can be replicated in classroom learning environments or in any of the variations of e-learning.
